OUR CITY IS WONDERFULLY DIVERSE, BUT THAT DIVERSITY IS NOT REFLECTED AT CITY HALL.

The numbers speak for themselves. A 2016 census estimate shows 53% of our citizens were white, yet in 2017 73% of employees at City Hall were white. That same imbalance applies for all wage groups over $30,000. Every effort must be made to actively recruit and hire a well qualified diverse staff at City Hall in all wage groups.

The first step would be regular review by the City Commission. Once a quarter, they need to review a couple of simple charts like the ones below, including a graph of change over time. Also each quarter, they need to review a list of the top 10 job openings at City Hall based on salary and be provided a summary of where those jobs have been advertised, applications received, etc.

To put it simply, the very first step is actually paying attention and insisting on action.
